Cookies are small text files stored on your device (computer, phone, or tablet) when you visit a website. They allow websites to remember your actions and preferences over a period of time, so you don't have to re-enter them when you return to the site or browse between pages.
Cookies can be session cookies (deleted when you close your browser) or persistent cookies (stored for a set duration). They can be set by the website you are visiting (first-party cookies) or by third-party services (third-party cookies).
Lease-A-Dock uses a minimal set of cookies. We do not use advertising cookies, social media tracking pixels, or behavioral retargeting. The only non-essential cookies we use are Google Analytics cookies, and those are only set with your consent via the cookie banner.
| Cookie | Type | Purpose | Duration | Required? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
connect.sid |
Essential / Session | Maintains your login session. Without this cookie you cannot stay logged in to your account. Set by our server using express-session with HttpOnly, Secure, and SameSite=Strict flags for maximum security. | 7 days (or until browser close if you don't check "remember me") | Yes — required to use the platform |
aff_code |
Affiliate Tracking | Set when you click an affiliate referral link. Records the affiliate's unique code so they receive commission credit if you list a dock within the cookie window. See our Affiliate Tracking Disclosure. | 30 days | No — only set if you click a referral link |
site_unlocked |
Functional | Records that you have authenticated during site maintenance or preview periods. Only active when the site is in maintenance mode. | 24 hours | No — only active during maintenance |
lad_consent |
Essential / Preference | Remembers the choice you made in the cookie consent banner so we don't ask on every visit. | 12 months | Yes — stores your consent choice |
_ga, _ga_* |
Analytics (Google Analytics 4) | Anonymized usage statistics — pages visited, session duration, general region. Helps us understand how the platform is used. Only set if you choose "Accept all" in the cookie banner. | Up to 2 years | No — requires your consent; declining removes them |
On your first visit (and again every 12 months), a consent banner asks whether you accept analytics cookies:
_ga cookies are set.You can change your mind at any time. Choosing "Essential only" after previously accepting also deletes existing Google Analytics cookies from your browser.
We explicitly do not use:
Stripe, our payment processor, may set cookies during the payment flow on their hosted pages. These are governed by Stripe's Privacy Policy.
You can control and manage cookies in several ways:
Browser settings: Most browsers allow you to view, delete, and block cookies. Here are instructions for common browsers:
connect.sid session cookie will prevent you from logging in to your Lease-A-Dock account. All other cookies can be blocked without affecting basic platform functionality.
Clearing affiliate cookie: If you clicked an affiliate referral link and wish to remove the attribution, simply clear your browser cookies. This will remove the aff_code cookie and no affiliate will receive commission if you subsequently list a dock.
For users in the EU/EEA:
connect.sid): Processed under legitimate interests — necessary for the platform to function. No consent required.aff_code): Processed under legitimate interests for accurate commission attribution. This cookie is only set when you actively click a referral link, which constitutes an implicit action indicating acceptance._ga, _ga_*): Processed under consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a) and the ePrivacy Directive).
